THANKSGIVING IN ACTION

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Thanksgiving is a noun formed from two action verbs, thanks and give. Usually we associate the word, thanksgiving, with the attitude of being thankful for what we have received including those gifts we do not deserve and those gifts we earned. Thanksgiving is more than an attitude but is also action that proves the existence of gratitude. Expressing our gratitude to God and to others for their love and mercy is both reasonable and biblical. When we express our gratitude our actions speak louder than our words.

Appreciation to Christ for His saving work on the cross is the motivation for every Christian deed. Works or any good deeds will not be the ticket to enter the pearly gates of Heaven. We live for God by our obedience to His commands to express our gratitude to our loving Father in Heaven. Jesus reminds us “to do our good works before others to glorify our Father in Heaven.” The letter of James corrects anyone who believes faith is acceptable without works because faith that works is the only kind of faith that leads us to repent, be baptized, and live the victorious Christian life.

In this Thanksgiving season, which does not end until the Christmas season begins, we offer our church family opportunities to express our gratitude through giving. On November 14 we celebrated “Soup for India” to provide funds for needy children of India. The Thanksgiving baskets is a local outreach for families at Christ’s Church to provide food for needy families in our community. Jesus said His followers are to provide for those who are hungry. We are so grateful for the blessings we enjoy we thank God and give to others. The Rock-Solid Giving Campaign is our response to God’s goodness and providence. Thanksgiving is attitude and action. Thanks for your involvement in expressing your thanks to our Lord.
