Vacation Bible School A Bit Different
Friday, July 27th, 2007Vacation Bible School at Christ’s Church will spring into action on Monday evening, August 6, with a group of excited youngsters numbering near the number at Sunday worship. This ministry started months ago with creative planning, recruiting of helpers, and leadership training. You can see the props that are being built on the church property to provide visual aids for the biblical instruction being planned. Dozens of volunteers spend numerous hours on Tuesday and Thursday evenings to assemble and arrange the props. VBS at Christ’s Church is the combination of Bible teaching with a touch of outdoor drama. Since it will be outdoors, we pray the rain will come before the week begins.
I appreciate the theme for this year’s VBS: “Born to Be Wild.” We believe God created all of us to be wild for Him as we follow His number one command to love God with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind and all our strengh. Many of us who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s remember the rock group Steppenwolf’s version of “Born to Be Wild.” Their version is not consistent with the theme found in Mark 12:30, which is the Scriptural basis for this year’s VBS theme. Our definition of “Born to Be Wild” is to hold nothing back from God and giving Him every piece of our lives. Since giving ourselves to God is not a popular theme in our secular world, loving God with all we are is the “wild” thing to do. In contemporary language we could also say it was the “cool” thing to do.
We thank our Children’s Director, Lindy Charles, for all the planning, work, and extra duty she is doing for this VBS. As most of you know, this year is a special challenge because she is expecting a child in November. We are all grateful for her.
In His Service,
Terry Jones, Senior Minister
