Update on Spiritual Boot Camp

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

After this Tuesday, April 24, Spiritual Boot Camp will have completed two sessions of leadership orientation. During the first session we concentrated on the characteristics required by Scripture for Elders and Ministers in the Lord’s Church to raise the level of our Christian character. Our sourcebook by Gene Getz states that church leaders make leadership decisions from their character. An unknown source states that any organization is an extension of its leadership. Since we leaders make decisions out of our character and the church is an extension of us leaders we have set a goal to become more Christlike in our character. We believe God wants all of our leaders to move to a higher level in being like Christ.

The Apostle Paul is only second to Christ as the greatest leader in Christianity. Though he was well trained in the Old Testament law and received direct revelations from God, he continued to grow in his leadership character and skills. In Philippians chapter three he summarizes his philosophy of life. “This one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching toward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” The application to present church leaders originates in the next verse which states, “Let us therefore, as many as are perfect (mature), have this attitude.” The church membership has the right to expect us leaders to be mature. Our goal is to continually equip and upgrade ourselves as we lead the church to present the message of Christ to a needy world. God will reward our efforts that we may rejoice and celebrate our victories in Christ together.
